Yaay! I bought 2 books today after not reading for too long. I didn't intend to buy anything when I entered the bookstore near school, Intellectual Property. In fact, I've only been to that place 3 times and found it intimidating; the place looks cold and expensive, uninviting and unbearably quiet. The name itself turns me off. It doesn't have couches or comics like Borders does. But, it wasn't so bad after all. Surprisingly, I managed to find some interesting books and good deals which left me feeling satisfied. :)))
One of the books that I bought was Eats, Shoots and Leaves. I often see this book but never glanced twice. I thought it's just another self-help book (this genre doesn't work for me). The pandas on the cover look so ugly that even the New York Times Bestseller mark doesn't compensate. But, I finally gave the book some attention and read the back cover:
A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.
"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.
"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."
The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds and explanation.
"P a n d a. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
So, it turned out that it's a book about punctuation. I ended up buying it because I thought, a book on such a dry and nerdy topic that became a New York Times Bestseller certainly worth checking out.
